Cookies
A cookie is a parcel of text exchanged between a web site and a web
browser. Cookies are typically used for authenticating and maintaining
specific information about users, such as site preferences. Note that
the Art South Africa web site only uses cookies set by itself, not third
parties. For further information, please see the Wikipedia entry.
The exact steps to enable cookies in a web browser may vary from
the following. Please consult your browser's Help facility if so.
Enabling cookies in Internet Explorer:
From a Windows PC browser, go to:
- Tools > Internet Options
- Click on the "Security" tab
- Make sure that the slider is set to "Medium"
- If it is set to "Custom", click the "Default Settings" button to reset to the "Medium" setting
- Click "OK"
From a Macintosh browser, go to:
- Edit > Preferences
- Double-click on the "Receiving Files" item in the left window
- Click on the sub-item named "Cookies"
- In the right window, select the drop-down menu item named "Never Ask"
- Click "OK"
Enabling cookies in Firefox:
From a Windows PC / Mac browser, go to:
- Tools > Options
- Click on "Privacy"
- Click on the "Cookies" tab
- Select the "Allow site to set cookies" option
- Click "OK"
Enabling cookies in Netscape / Mozilla:
From a Windows PC / Mac browser, go to:
- Edit > Preferences
- Double-click on "Privacy & Security"
- Click on the sub-item named "Cookies"
- Select the "Allow cookies for the originating website only" option
- Click "OK"
Web Feeds
Feeds deliver updates to web-based content, and allow you to find out what's new on a website without you having to visit it.
To view a feed, you need either a web-based or desktop reader (also referred to as an "aggregator").
Web-based readers allow you to subscribe to feeds online and view
them in a web browser. Desktop readers are software programs or
plug-ins that are installed on your computer. Some examples include:
To subscribe to a feed, right-click (Windows) or ctrl-click (Mac) on the feed
link, and copy the link address. Then go to your feed reader, create a
new subscription or feed, and paste the address when asked.
